On the Tools & On the Road | Home Modifications and Assistive Technology in Action

Every week looks a little different for our team at Aged Care & Medical, but our goal never changes: helping Australians live safely, confidently, and comfortably at home. From urgent home modification callouts to small but important assistive technology installations, here’s a look at how we supported clients this week.

Urgent Home Modification Callouts

We began the week in Frankston South with a priority delivery of an iCare double bed. Our team worked closely with the occupational therapist and family to make sure it was delivered, set up, and tested onsite. Having the right mobility equipment in place gave the client immediate peace of mind and comfort.

Everyday Accessibility Fixes That Matter

Not all jobs are urgent — but each one makes a difference.
This week:

  • An accessible lever tap replaced an old trough tap, making daily routines easier.
  • Grab rails were installed securely into timber studs, in line with the OT’s scope of works and best-practice safety standards.

These small home accessibility modifications often deliver the biggest transformation, helping people stay independent and safe.

Handrails for Safety and Independence

Midweek we met Patrick, whose old painted galvanised handrails had begun to rust and pose a fall risk. Our team replaced them with stainless steel bilateral handrails, a durable, long-lasting solution that restored safety and confidence.

Assistive Technology Deliveries With Care

Our equipment team also had a busy week:

  • A Sara Stedy transfer aid was delivered with a full demonstration for the carer and client’s husband.
  • A rental bed and mattress were delivered — despite one of the narrowest driveways we’ve ever seen.

Access challenges won’t stop us from ensuring essential equipment reaches the people who need it.

Small Jobs, Big Impact

Some of the most meaningful changes come from the smallest fixes:

  • A magnetic door catch fitted to a heavy door reduced strain for the client.
  • Protruding screws were ground back to remove a daily safety hazard.

These small modifications reduce risk, prevent accidents, and make everyday life more comfortable.

The Bigger Picture

Every visit — whether a large-scale modification or a small equipment delivery — supports the same purpose: helping people live well at home.
And while the tools and assistive technology matter, what really makes the difference is our skilled, adaptable, and patient team.
